Kyria concept, hair studies

Kyria, the protagonist of the story or in other words, a sexy chick that's going to kick some demon ass!

This is the final Kyria concept, Richard did a small full body sketch and used the clothing moodboard that you can view further down this post, to create a rough version of Kyria's outfit. After reviewing the small sketch with Diane, Richard sketched out a larger version of Kyria and added all of the clothing pieces.

Before we would settle on a hairstyle we had to try out some. So Richard went and sketched out a basic head in front and side view so we could add hair to it. Richard did 2 hairstyles and Diane did 4, we decided to go with the bottom left hairstyle.

We both knew we wanted to have a sexy woman as the protagonist of our game. So Diane started out with a basic female figure in the centre of our clothing moodboard. She then started adding pieces of clothing from various images to the moodboard. Each piece of clothing was connected to the section of the body where it belonged.
This moodboard would be the base of the whole character outfit.

Methorus, moodboard, concept sketches

Methorus is the main antagonist of the game. Infused with power from demonic artifacts this 'man' is responsible for the death's of many. Below are the images that led to the final concept.

This is the final concept of Methorus the demon wizard done by Richard.

These are the sketches done by Richard that led to the final concept of the evil Methorus. After reviewing them with Diane we decided that the hat shouldn't be over the top, and we went with a classic hood.

Moodboard made by Diane, including some famous wizards from games and movies. Yes, that is Christopher Lee on the left as Saruman, he can play the perfect evil wizard. Richard insisted on him being in the moodboard.

Primary goals of the project.

Here's a little summary of our goals for this final exam project. Although we're mainly assuming the role of game artist in this project we'll also touch animation, gamedesign, concept art, programming. We feel if we do not do so, the final product will suffer from it.

We set out to make:

3 environments
Three playable environments, which showcase various sections of the world. What's very important here is that we capture the mood and setting we had in our minds when we made the story. We'll be carefull with the props, randomly placing a few boxes in a level will not make it better.

2 character models
The playable character of course and the evil wizard. At one point in the demo you'll encounter the evil wizard, he'll summon some demons for you to fight against and then he'll flee.

3 enemies
Three enemies which can be interacted with (you fight them).

1 intro animation
As to not throw the player into the deep straight from the start we'll make a short intro animation explaining what has happened to Kyria (parents murdered by evil wizard, pretty much). The intro animation is going to be made using some animation tricks on still images, much like dragonica or darksiders.

1 Interface / Heads up display
The plan is to create a 2d interface / heads up display which we'll lay over the 3d scenes. The interface is going to match the style and mood of the game and is a little bit of design we're throwing into the mix.

5-10 interaction animations
Aside from the character animations, we'll also make 2d animations that will be
rendered as billboard (a flat 3d plane) particles. These animations are vital for the game's feel.

First post, blog online!

We figured project Kyria could use a blog, it would help our teachers and everyone else involved or interested keep track of the development of Kyria. =)

So here it is! I've done some fiddling with the default blog template and made a little custom one, to fit the mood of the game. ;) I might tinker with it some more but the mood is set so I can't wait to get started on Kyria.
Diane and I are still working hard on our internship project at the moment so everything we do for Kyria now is done in our free time.

More updates soon!
